The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Mr. Mubarick Masawudu, has stated that climate action must support and not undermine national development priorities.
He made these remarks during the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil.
Speaking on a high-level panel themed “Ensuring a Just and Equitable Energy Transition of Shipping,” Mr. Masawudu emphasized Ghana’s position on the necessity of decarbonization.
However, he cautioned that this transition must not unfairly increase costs for import-dependent economies like Ghana.
The Deputy Director General stressed that a Just Transition requires concessional finance, technology transfer, and risk-sharing mechanisms designed to shield developing nations from potential impacts on food security and inflation.
