The sensitization programme, which took place at the hospital’s conference room through a PowerPoint presentation, focused on educating the nursing students on the provisions and importance of the RTI Act. Mr. Esuon explained the role of the law in promoting transparency, accountability, and effective communication within public institutions, particularly in the healthcare sector where access to information remains essential to patient care and public trust.

During the engagement, the Information Officer highlighted the importance of respecting the fundamental rights of mental health patients regarding information sharing among patients, their accompanying relatives, and hospital authorities. Participants were taken through practical illustrations of the law and how it applies within healthcare settings, helping the students appreciate the balance between access to information and the protection of sensitive patient information.

The students expressed appreciation for the sensitization programme and commended the hospital for exposing them to the practical application of the RTI Law during their clinical training. The engagement further underscored the critical role of Information Officers in educating future healthcare professionals and strengthening community awareness on access to information, transparency, and accountability in public service delivery.
