The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has handed over the Akoto Lante Library to contractors for renovation, with works expected to finish in three months.
The project was handed over to Leak and Seal Engineering Services by AMA Presiding Member, Mr Musah Ziyad, on behalf of Accra Mayor, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey.
The renovation is part of efforts to upgrade public infrastructure and create better learning spaces for students and residents in Akoto Lante and nearby communities.
Renovation works will include demolition and alterations, installation of aluminium and glass balustrades, joinery, plumbing, glazing, electrical installations, air-conditioning, floor polishing, ceiling works, wall crack repairs, and general painting.
Mr Ziyad said the project shows the Assembly’s commitment to improving educational facilities. He noted that the library serves students, researchers, and community members, and the facelift will help support teaching, learning, and reading.
The Contractor, Mr Vincent Kotoka Agbanu, assured the Assembly that the project will follow the approved scope and be completed within three months. He promised quality work with attention to all major areas.
Kinka Electoral Area Assembly Member, Mr Carlos Mankattah, also commended the mayor for ensuring the renovation.
He said the library’s condition had deteriorated despite past attempts to raise the issue during the tenure of former mayors Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah and Mrs Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey. Previous interventions were not enough to restore the facility.
Mr Mankattah expressed hope that the renovation will be completed on time, bringing the library “back to light” for students, young people, and residents.
He urged residents to support the contractor and cooperate with the Assembly for smooth execution.
