Africa Oil Week Begins in Ghana with Strong Turnout

The 2025 Africa Oil Week (AOW) conference commenced in Accra, drawing more than 1,200 registered delegates for its opening session. The event is being hosted in Ghana for the first time.

Organized by Sankofa Events, the conference brings together government officials, investors, and industry executives to discuss opportunities in Africa’s upstream oil and gas sector. The gathering is designed to facilitate deal-making and partnerships.

Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Jinapor, delivered the keynote address. He welcomed attendees and spoke about the need to balance resource development with the move toward cleaner energy.

“Africa’s energy future depends on our ability to responsibly harness our resources while ensuring energy security and supporting the global transition to cleaner fuels,” Jinapor stated.

The opening session was attended by numerous ministers, leaders of national oil companies, and executives from international energy firms. The level of international presence solidifies the event’s role as a main meeting for upstream investment in Africa.

Paul Sinclair, CEO of Sankofa Events, said, “We are proud to deliver this edition of Africa Oil Week here in Accra. With record-breaking attendance, an extraordinary line-up of global and African leaders, and deal-making opportunities at every level, this is the moment Africa’s upstream story takes centre stage.”

The conference will continue throughout the week, with discussions planned on exploration, mergers and acquisitions, gas development, and energy transition.
