The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have announced a tragic stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium just before the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
The incident, which took place around 6:20 AM on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of six potential recruits and left numerous others injured.
According to the GAF, preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed through the gates ahead of the scheduled screening.
“The injured are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital,” the press release stated.
The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize those affected.
“Arrangements are also being made to notify the families of the deceased,” they noted.
The GAF extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a swift recovery to the injured. They are committed to providing further updates as the situation develops.
