Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah has announced the death of eight people, including two ministers, in a military helicopter crash this morning in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
The victims include, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, along with six other officials and military personnel.
“I have the unpleasant duty, sadly, to announce a national tragedy involving a crash of a military helicopter this morning around the Adansi area in Ashanti region,” Debrah stated during the announcement.
Also killed in the crash were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, and Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
The military personnel who perished include Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
“The President and Government extends our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country,” the Chief of Staff said.
Government has ordered all flags to fly at half-mast until further notice as the nation mourns the loss of the senior government officials and military officers.
