The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Mr Seidu Issifu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships to advance climate action and sustainable development.
He said this during a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ghana, H.E. Park Kyongsig, to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration.
The meeting focused on strengthening Ghana-Korea relations in the areas of climate change mitigation, sustainability and low-carbon development.
Mr Issifu congratulated the Ambassador on the progress made in advancing collaboration on Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which provides a framework for countries to cooperate in achieving their climate goals.
The Minister stated the importance of sustained dialogue and knowledge sharing in developing innovative solutions to climate challenges, noting that international cooperation remains critical in supporting countries’ efforts to meet their climate commitments while promoting sustainable economic growth.
He emphasised that strategic partnerships such as the one between Ghana and the Republic of Korea are important for accelerating climate action and building resilience against the impacts of climate change.
Discussions during the meeting also highlighted the increasing importance of global partnerships in supporting the transition to low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways.
Mr Issifu reiterated Ghana’s commitment to working with development partners to implement practical and impactful climate initiatives that support national development objectives while contributing to global climate goals.
For his part, Ambassador Park Kyongsig expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and welcomed the opportunity to further strengthen collaboration between the two countries.
He reaffirmed the Republic of Korea’s commitment to continued engagement with Ghana on climate and sustainability issues and expressed optimism about future areas of cooperation.
