The Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured victims of the recent fire at the Police Barracks opposite the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters of government support, as efforts begin to restore normalcy and provide relief to affected families.
The Minister gave the assurance during his visit to the scene of the devastating fire in Accra Central to assess the extent of the damage and interact with displaced residents.
Addressing victims and officials during the visit, Mr Muntaka disclosed that the government was putting measures in place to provide temporary accommodation for all families displaced by the incident while plans for the reconstruction of the affected barracks are finalised.
He further announced that victims would receive cash support and clothing to help them cope with the immediate challenges resulting from the disaster.
Additional relief items, he noted, would also be provided through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The Interior Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that affected families receive the necessary assistance and support during the recovery period.
Mr Muntaka commended the Inspector General of Police, members of the Police Management Board, and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service for their swift response in containing the blaze and preventing further destruction.
He noted that the prompt intervention of emergency responders helped minimise the impact of the fire and expressed appreciation for their professionalism and dedication.
As part of his visit, the minister proceeded to the Police Hospital, where he visited an officer who sustained injuries during the fire and is currently receiving treatment.
He commended the medical team for their prompt care and urged the officer to focus on recovery, assuring him of the government’s support throughout the healing process.
