North East Regional Minister Holds Maiden Accountability Forum in Nalerigu

The North East Regional Minister, Mr Ibrahim Tia, has convened the region’s first accountability forum to account for his stewardship since assuming office in February 2025.

The forum, aimed to deepen citizen engagement in local governance, took place at the North East Regional Coordinating Council, as part of the government’s nationwide Accountability Series regularly aired on national television.

It brought together civil society organisations, heads of departments and Institutions, service commanders, traditional authorities, the media, and members of the public.

Mr Tia said the session was not only to report on development projects but also to foster dialogue that would improve service delivery and strengthen transparency in the region’s governance.

“This engagement is to ensure that every citizen contributes and feels part of the dispensation,” he stated.

Highlighting key interventions, the Minister said the agriculture sector, which remains the backbone of the local economy, had received significant support through the distribution of 20,000 bags of fertiliser, maize seeds, livestock support, hybrid maize and tomato seeds to farmers and schools under the Feed Ghana Programme.

On security, he announced that the Ghana Police Service had received seven vehicles, including three armoured vehicles, to enhance operations.

He revealed that a Bureau of National Investigations office would soon be established in Nalerigu, noting that the government had commenced 85 educational projects across the region, covering dormitories, classrooms, and administrative facilities.

He indicated that in the health sector, 31 facilities have either been constructed, rehabilitated, or completed with support from development partners, adding that all six Districts in the region are beneficiaries of Phase One of the Mahama Care Policy.

On water and sanitation, the Minister disclosed that 26 construction projects of boreholes began within the period under review, with 10 completed and 16 still under construction and announced plans to rehabilitate the long-neglected Nalerigu and Langbinsi dams to boost irrigation.

He said the region continues to enjoy relative peace and stability due to effective collaboration between government, security agencies, development partners, and traditional authorities.

Describing the developments over the past 16 months as significant, Mr Tia reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive and transparent governance aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents across the North East Region.
