OHCS Commissions Upgraded Reception and Elevator to Improve Accessibility and Service Delivery

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service (OHCS) has commissioned a newly renovated reception area and elevator as part of efforts to enhance accessibility and improve service delivery.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Head of the Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, commended both past and present staff for their selfless contributions toward the institution’s development.

He noted that the project underscores OHCS’s commitment to fostering a dignified, inclusive, and professional working environment.

The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, praised the leadership of OHCS for prioritising infrastructure that reflects inclusivity and efficiency rather than mere aesthetics.

He stressed that the reception area, as the first point of contact for clients and stakeholders, plays a critical role in shaping perceptions of public service delivery.

“The addition of the elevator fundamentally improves accessibility and safety within the facility,” he added.

Mr Adjei further referenced the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2006 (Act 715), emphasising that accessibility is a right, not a privilege.

He lauded OHCS for setting a strong example by translating policy into practical action and urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to modernise their facilities to meet accessibility standards.

“Quality service delivery thrives where accessibility is assured, and the working environment enables every individual to contribute fully,” he added, describing the project as a symbol of progress, inclusiveness, and excellence in public administration.

The Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Dr Lawrence Kannea, called on management and staff to maintain the new facilities and ensure their proper use to sustain long-term benefits.
