Minister Of State in Charge of Government Communication Meets ISD PROs to Assess Challenges and Outline Reforms

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has met with Public Relations Officers (PROs) from the Information Services Department (ISD) across the country to engage them, assess their challenges, and improve working conditions.

Speaking during the meeting on Wednesday at the ISD Press Centre, the minister assured the officers of the government’s commitment to improving their working conditions and enhancing the effectiveness of public communication.

He acknowledged the demanding nature of their work and commended them for their role in shaping public understanding of government policies.

He addressed concerns surrounding staff transfers within the ISD, clarifying that such movements are not punitive but are intended to “revive and rejuvenate” officers by exposing them to new experiences and responsibilities.

The minister further disclosed that the government is working on a comprehensive plan to revamp the ISD, including the injection of resources to improve infrastructure, logistics, and overall working conditions.

According to him, discussions have already been held with the President and relevant stakeholders to support this transformation agenda.

He revealed that the government is pursuing a holistic review of remuneration across the public sector to ensure fairness and alignment with expertise and workload.

The Head of the Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD) of ISD, Rev. Mrs Charlotte Hanson, underscored the importance of strategic communication in national development.

She called on PROs to prioritise the development of communication plans and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Rev. Hanson described the meeting as an opportunity to “reset, reconnect, and rise,” urging participants to strengthen collaboration and improve information dissemination to the public.

The Director of ISD, Dr Nafisa, highlighted ongoing efforts to expand public engagement through initiatives such as a proposed 24-hour national information contact centre and the deployment of information vans to underserved communities.

She stressed the need for data-driven communication strategies to enhance public education and policy feedback.
