GWL and Armed Forces Strengthen Alliance to Safeguard National Water Security

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have strengthened their alliance to safeguard water security, positioning a reliable supply as a matter of national resilience and defence readiness.

They made this known when the Managing Director of GWL, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to deepen institutional collaboration and address challenges affecting both civilian and military communities.

Mr Mutawakilu acknowledged recent shortages at Burma Camp and Teshie, attributing them to the shutdown of the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant.

He assured the CDS that servicing works were at an advanced stage and would soon restore supply.

He disclosed that GWL was constructing a new water processing plant in Tema, expected to be completed by June 2026, to stabilise distribution across the Eastern corridor of Greater Accra.

Lt. Gen. Agyapong welcomed the initiative, stressing water as essential to sustaining military personnel and their families, and that shortages can directly affect operational readiness.

He affirmed GAF’s continuous support for GWL, noting that a cohesive institutional relationship was vital for national development.
