The Ministry of Transport has hosted a delegation from the Gambian Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MoTWI), who were in Ghana on a study tour to learn from the country’s transport regulatory institutions.
Welcoming the team on Tuesday in Accra, the Minister for Transport, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, acknowledged the importance of collaboration among African countries to strengthen governance and improve transport systems across the continent.
He recalled his own study visit to Rwanda, where he learned strategies for commercialising motorcycle transport in Ghana, and highlighted the benefits of knowledge-sharing among nations, hence pledging the government’s continued support to any African country seeking to learn from Ghana’s experiences.
The Gambian delegation, led by the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical) of MoTWI, Mr Ebrima Colley, commended the valuable insights gained from Ghanaian agencies such as the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), and Intercity STC Coaches Limited.
Mr Colley noted that the lessons learned during the study tour would help strengthen transport governance in Gambia and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
