President Mahama Directs $78 Million Payment to Restart Agona–Nkwanta Road Project

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Finance to release $78 million to Justmoh Construction Company.

The funds will settle outstanding debts for work completed on the Agona–Nkwanta Road project since 2024.

This payment will allow the contractor to return to work on this road in the Western Region.

The instruction follows a recent government payment of more than $70 million in arrears to the contractor on the Ofankor–Nsawam Road, intended to speed up that project’s completion.

The President stated these payments are part of an effort to maintain infrastructure projects begun by the prior administration.

“As I promised, we will continue all road projects we inherited from the previous government. All contractors who were working before we came into office on projects awarded by the previous government, I have asked them to continue, and we are paying them so they can continue the work,” President Mahama said.

During the President’s visit to the Agona–Nkwanta Road, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza informed him that contractors on stalled road projects should be back on site by the first quarter of next year.

This follows parliamentary approval of the Debt Restructuring Agreement.

He said the agreement will allow suspended projects, such as the PTC Interchange in Takoradi, to resume.
