The Government of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the Sahel region following a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Mali that struck multiple military positions, including targets in the capital, Bamako.
The attacks, which occurred on Saturday, April 25, reportedly resulted in the death of Mali’s Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara, along with several military personnel and civilians in the area.
In a press statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana extended its condolences to the Government and people of Mali, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The statement emphasised that violent extremism has no place in the modern world and called for strengthened international cooperation to combat terrorism.
Ghanaian nationals residing in Mali have been advised to exercise caution and limit nonessential movement, and maintain regular contact with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako to stay informed about safety developments.
Additionally, Ghanaian traders and transport operators who regularly travel along the Mali route for commercial activities have been directed to suspend movement until further notice due to security concerns.
The government reiterated that it was working closely with Malian authorities to monitor the situation and would provide updates when conditions improve to allow for the safe resumption of trade and travel.
The Minister reaffirmed its position, pledged solidarity with Mali during this difficult period and assured its citizens that their safety and well-being remain a top priority.
