The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has held a sensitization session at Ideal College to educate students about the dangers of gun violence and to promote peace within their school community.
The interactive session, held on Monday in Accra, brought together over 250 students and staff members. Participants discussed topics such as the consequences of firearm misuse, conflict prevention, and the vital role of youth in fostering peace and stability.
During the session, the NACSA team also briefed students on the upcoming Gun Amnesty Programme, which allows individuals to voluntarily surrender illicit firearms without fear of prosecution.
The team stressed that the amnesty provides a rare chance for citizens to support efforts toward a safer Ghana by reducing the number of illegal weapons in circulation.
Students were encouraged to become advocates for peace and to share the Gun Amnesty message with their families, friends, and neighbours, urging anyone with unregistered weapons to surrender them during the amnesty period.
The team reaffirmed NACSAโs commitment to continuous education and collaboration with schools nationwide to nurture a culture of non-violence and responsible citizenship.
