The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has launched NkrumahFest 2025 at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Friday in Accra.
She revealed an inter-ministerial initiative to honor the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Adding that there will be a partnership with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament of Ellembelle constituency, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to organize the “Journey to Nkroful,” Nkrumah’s birthplace.
“We will depart from this park at dawn on September 20th and return on the 22nd. This is more than a trip. It is a spiritual and cultural journey to reflect on Nkrumah’s role in Ghana’s independence and Africa’s liberation,” she added.
On his part, Professor Anokye, the keynote speaker for the event, shared insights into Nkrumah’s struggles in the United Kingdom, where systemic racism hindered his career, leading him to take bold steps upon returning to Africa.
He emphasised Nkrumah’s intellectual achievements, including writing over 15 philosophical works while in office.
He also praised the founding of Ghana National College as an act of resistance against colonial oppression, calling it “more important than the Akosombo Dam.”
The event drew dignitaries, scholars, students, and pan-African activists from across the continent and diaspora.
NkrumahFest 2025 is part of a national effort to celebrate Nkrumah’s vision of African unity, self-determination, and intellectual independence.
