President Mahama Pledges Better Sports Facilities, Health Support for Nsawam Prison Inmates

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to improve sporting facilities at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The President made the pledges on Saturday during a fellowship visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison by the Men’s Ministry of the Ringway Assemblies of God Church, of which he is a member.

He also assured inmates that the Lordina Foundation will support their health needs, as he called for greater compassion and care for people behind bars.

The visit combined worship and ministration with a substantial donation of food items and an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects at the facility.

The twin commitments, better sports facilities and health support through the Lordina Foundation , underlined the personal dimension of the President’s engagement with prison welfare, going beyond the day’s donations to signal a longer-term interest in the lives and wellbeing of inmates.

The Men’s Ministry presented a range of food items to support the welfare of inmates, including 250 bags of rice, 50 bags of maize, 50 bags of gari, 50 bags of sugar, 30 gallons of cooking oil, 50 cartons of tomato paste, 50 cartons of spaghetti and 50 boxes of sardines.

The programme featured praise, worship and ministration led by the Men’s Ministry, with Head Pastor of Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God Church, Reverend Benjamin Tettey, delivering a sermon that urged inmates not to lose hope despite their circumstances.

He called on them to embrace repentance, reform and faith in Jesus Christ as a source of strength and renewal.

The delegation also inspected two ongoing projects at the prison, a 5,000-layer poultry facility and an 800-capacity remand prison, both aimed at reducing congestion at the facility and improving conditions for inmates
