NACOC pledges support to combat Violent Extremism

The Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in charge of General Services, Mr Stephen Yeboah, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to address violent extremism in the country.

According to him, proponents of violent extremism are often linked to illicit drug use, which fuels their capacity to perpetrate acts of cruelty.

He made these remarks at the launch of the Development and Resilience Index against Violent Extremism (DRIVE) on Tuesday in Accra.

He noted that drug abuse among individuals involved in violent extremist activities poses a serious threat to societal stability and peace.

“It is very worrying to note the devastating effect of drug abuse by the youth, and as a nation, we must all come together to ensure such acts are managed,” he stressed.

Mr Yeboah commended the National Peace Council and its key partners for initiating and launching the DRIVE initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in strengthening national efforts to prevent violent extremism and promote resilience across communities.
