The Central Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has partnered with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to conduct a combined road sensitisation and search operation at the Beposo toll booth along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.
The initiative was designed to promote road safety and raise awareness about the dangers of drug use among motorists and passengers.
Speaking during the exercise on Monday, the Assistant Narcotics Control Officer (ANCO) of the Cape Coast Regional Command, Mr Andrew Garshong, interacted with both drivers and passengers, emphasising the need for responsible behaviour on the road.
He particularly highlighted the risks associated with driving under the influence of drugs, warning that such conduct poses a serious threat to the lives of all road users.
Mr Garshong also called on passengers to play an active role in ensuring their own safety by reporting any erratic or suspicious behaviour exhibited by drivers that could put lives at risk.
He encouraged members of the travelling public to stay alert and report any suspicious luggage or packages to the appropriate authorities, as such items could potentially contain illegal substances.
He advised the general public to entirely abstain from illicit substances, stressing that safety must always be the top priority to safeguard lives on the road.
