Ministry of Trade Tasks Local Businesses to Adopt a Borderless Commercial Outlook

The Director of Agribusiness at the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mr Kwame Oppong Ntim, has urged entrepreneurs to leverage the continent’s current economic dynamics to boost their business.

He said this on Monday at the 2025 Africa We Want Summit in Accra.

He described Africa’s 1.4 billion people, its youthful population, and expanding digital access as a foundation for growth.

He emphasised the role of the African Continental Free Trade Area in creating a single market from many separate ones.

According to him, a business originating in Accra must possess the capacity to expand its operations to cities like Kigali, Cape Town, and Tunis, thereby promoting a commercial outlook without borders.

Mr Oppong Ntim disclosed that the Ghana Enterprise Agency was implementing a progressive licensing scheme, with supported guidance for small firms to prepare for exporting, adding that work by the Business Regulatory Reform Commission to simplify standards and improve the investment climate was also underway.

“Ghana’s forthcoming Agribusiness Policy will introduce stricter packaging and quality standards to help local businesses compete abroad. Entrepreneurship requires capacity building, honesty and hard work,” he said.

On his part, the President of the African Entrepreneurship Academy, Mr Wilson Kafui Senya, reinforced the need for continued support for entrepreneurial training.

He called on participants and partners of the Academy to work together to build the Africa they envision.

The summit featured the graduation of the 19th Cohort of the AEA Launchpad Entrepreneurship Programme. Thirty-two individuals completed training in business growth and internationalisation, which included study in Business Chinese and Business French to prepare for global markets.
