Lebanese Ambassador and Philanthropist donate vehicles and equipment to the Ghana Police Service

The Ghana Police Service has received a major boost to its operational capacity following a donation from the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Mohammed Baalbaki, and prominent Lebanese businessman and philanthropist, Mohammed Addams Raii.

The donation includes three Nissan Navara pick-up vehicles for general policing duties, four saloon cars, 20 motorbikes, 20 pieces of 43-inch television sets, and 30 air conditioners aimed at improving working conditions within police facilities.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony on Tuesday, in Accra, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said, “We are deeply grateful to the Lebanese community for this support. It shows their recognition of the efforts of the police in reducing crime and maintaining law and order in the country,” he added.

The IGP explained that two of the pick-up vehicles would be assigned to the IGP’s Special Operations Team, a tactical unit responsible for high-priority operations, while the third would be used to monitor police operational activities nationwide.

The four CID vehicles will strengthen investigative capabilities, enabling detectives to respond more swiftly to crime scenes and conduct thorough investigations.

IGP Yohuno commended Ambassador Baalbaki, Mr Raii, and the broader Lebanese business community in Ghana for their consistent and unwavering support, highlighting that the contribution reflected the strong and cordial relationship between Ghana and Lebanon.

“These resources will go a long way to support our work and improve our response to crime. We assure you that they will be used judiciously to help us discharge our duties effectively,” he added.

Ambassador Baalbaki emphasised that the donation was a continuation of the enduring partnership between the Lebanese community and the Ghana Police Service, characterised by logistical support, collaborative security efforts, and capacity building.

“This is not the first time such a donation has been made. The Lebanese Embassy, from time to time, sponsors and donates vehicles and equipment, and provides scholarships for police officers,” Ambassador Baalbaki stated.

Mr Mohammed Addams Raii said he was particularly excited about the potential to improve standards at the wards of the Police Hospital, which serves not only officers but also the general public.

He noted that his charitable efforts have consistently assisted schools and public institutions across the country.
