The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Zongo and Hausa communities through policies that strengthen security, address social challenges, and enhance their contributions to nation-building.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at the 2025 World Hausa Day celebration on Saturday in Accra, the Minister underscored the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, particularly within the Zongo and Hausa communities, while acknowledging their significant role in Ghana’s development.

Mr. Muntaka noted that Zongos have evolved from temporary caravan stops into vibrant centres of commerce, culture, and community, driving economic growth, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering social cohesion.

He also recognised the challenges facing these communities, including security concerns and the rise of drug abuse among the youth.

He stressed the need for collective action to address such issues, pointing to government efforts to strengthen security and expand rehabilitation programmes for affected individuals.

The Minister urged parents, Imams, chiefs, and community leaders to instil positive values and promote role models who can inspire young people to excel.

He further expressed appreciation to the Hausa community for its enduring contributions to Ghana’s growth and progress, calling on all citizens to work together toward a safer and more prosperous future, inspired by the legacy of Zongo.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, commended the government for its continued support of the Muslim community.

He reiterated the importance of peace and unity, offering prayers for the President, the government, the people of Ghana, and the nation’s ongoing development.

World Hausa Day, known in Hausa as Ranar Hausa, is celebrated annually on August 26 by Hausa communities worldwide. The occasion showcases the rich cultural heritage, language, art, and traditions of the Hausa people.
