Gov’t Recommits Administration to Ethical Leadership, Service Above Self

Government has recommitted itself to ethical leadership and governance anchored in integrity, competence, and compassion as it marks its first year in office.

The administration also pledged to prioritize listening to the vulnerable, youth, and those who feel excluded while maintaining national unity.

The recommitment was made at a non-denominational thanksgiving service marking the first anniversary of the President John Dramani Mahama -led government.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama said the occasion was a moment of reflection and renewed purpose rather than a celebration of power.

“Thanksgiving must also be accompanied by recommitment. And so today we recommit to ethical leadership, we recommit ourselves to service above self, we recommit ourselves to governance anchored in integrity, competence and compassion,” the President stated.

He emphasized that the administration will focus on listening to voices that are often marginalized in national discourse.

“We recommit ourselves to listening, especially to the voices of our vulnerable, our youth and those who feel excluded,” he said.

The President noted that leadership as a privilege and a load that comes with significant responsibility, noting that the past year has brought the administration face to face with the weight of that responsibility.

“My fellow citizens, leadership is a privilege but it’s also a load we are asked to carry. And over the past year we have come face to face with the weight of that load,” he explained.

President Mahama acknowledged the challenges faced during the year, including economic hardship, social anxiety, global uncertainties, and the legitimate expectations of Ghanaians.

“And yet through it all God has stood by us. Our democracy has remained strong, our institutions have held their own and our people have shown resilience, patience and faith in the future of our beloved nation,” the President stated.

He said the administration has taken difficult decisions and undertaken difficult reforms, laying foundations that may not yet be visible but are sustainable for the country’s progress.

“We have prioritized economic stabilization, institutional reform, social protection and the restoration of confidence, both within our country and in the international community,” Mahama explained.

The President noted that progress is measured not only by numbers, charts, and diagrams, but also by hope that is restored, trust that is rebuilt, and correct direction that is regained.

“The work we have begun is far from finished, but today reminds us that progress is not measured only by numbers and by charts and diagrams. It is also measured by hope that is restored, by trust that is rebuilt, and correct direction that is regained,” he said.

President Mahama emphasized that authority is temporary and fleeting, describing leadership as stewardship held on behalf of the people.

“Let us never forget that leadership is stewardship. It is temporary and fleeting. Authority is a fleeting trust held on behalf of the people,” the President stated.

He thanked Ghanaians for one year of trust, partnership, and shared sacrifice, expressing hope that the year ahead will bring renewed strength to the nation, wisdom to leaders, peace to communities, and hope to every Ghanaian home.
