Government Pledges Support to Strengthen Fugu Value Chain

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed the growing role of Fugu in creating jobs, preserving culture and supporting tourism.

She made the remarks on Thursday in Accra during a joint stakeholder engagement with smock producers and dealers. The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.

Discussions centred on strengthening the Fugu value chain, addressing production constraints and expanding market access. Producers raised concerns about access to raw materials, financing, distribution challenges and the need for broader promotion of Fugu in schools and public institutions.

The engagement follows renewed international attention on Ghana’s indigenous textiles after President Mahama wore Fugu during a recent state visit to Zambia.

Madam Gomashie reiterated the government’s commitment to working with industry players to promote Fugu as a symbol of national identity and a source of inclusive economic growth.
