The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has cited Ghana’s latest humanitarian mission as a direct reflection of the nation’s enduring commitment to international solidarity.

He said this at the send-off ceremony of the Ghana Army engineers to Jamaica for Post -post-hurricane reconstruction support in Accra on Wednesday.

The minister said the deployment comes at the request of Jamaica’s Prime Minister, demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to supporting fellow Commonwealth nations.

“We are grateful to our gallant men and women in uniform for always making Ghana proud across the world,” he stated, acknowledging the nation’s reputation as a top contributor to United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He commended U.S. President Donald Trump for exempting Ghana from recent visa restrictions affecting many neighbouring countries, emphasising the strong bilateral relationship.

“This speaks volumes to the good brotherliness between President Trump and President Mahama,” he noted.

The Minister urged for ongoing solidarity and support to ensure the success of the humanitarian mission.

On his part, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ralph Olsen stated that the U.S. Air Force’s C-17 aircraft is set to transport 54 Ghanaian military service members and nine pallets of essential equipment, totalling over 65,000 pounds of personnel and supplies.

“Today’s operation serves as a testament to the strength of our collaboration, rapid response, technical expertise, and a genuine willingness to assist those in need,” he noted.

He said, “The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to helping our neighbours recover from this disaster and will continue to seek meaningful ways to assist during this crucial time,”.

The deployment of Ghanaian engineers strengthens relationships throughout the international community and contributes significantly to the shared goal of rebuilding and helping communities recover.
