The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), has officially re-launched the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Risk Management.
The three-day event brought together representatives from government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, academia, and the private sector to enhance Ghana’s resilience to disasters and climate-related risks.
Speaking at the event in Accra, the Director-General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), emphasised that the reactivation of the platform aligns with Ghana’s strategic priorities under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030).
“Building resilience requires an all-of-society approach, where every stakeholder plays a role in risk prevention, preparedness, and recovery,” he noted.
The Programme Management Officer for Risk Governance at UNDRR, Ms. Isabel Njihia, highlighted the platform’s significance, describing it as “a statement of intent from Ghana—a move from commitment to tangible impact.”
She added that a fully functional platform will strengthen risk governance, promote evidence-based decision-making, and help mobilise resources from key financing mechanisms, including the Green Climate Fund.
