Ghana Prisons Service, Pentecost University Sign MoU to Boost Inmate Rehabilitation

The Ghana Prisons Service has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pentecost University to strengthen rehabilitation and capacity-building programmes for inmates.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday in Accra, is expected to create a long-term impact through structured training and reformation initiatives.

Under the partnership, a joint steering committee will be established to oversee the implementation and sustainability of the initiative.

The Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), highlighted capacity building as one of the major challenges confronting the Service, adding that the partnership with Pentecost University would facilitate the development of tailored training programmes for inmates, focusing on practical skills acquisition and improved production practices

She stated that efforts would be made to expand ongoing rehabilitation initiatives by introducing certified training programmes, enabling inmates to acquire recognised qualifications to support their reintegration into society after serving their sentences.

The Dean of Theology at Pentecost University, Apostle Professor Emmanuel Anim, stressed the importance of intentional reform within correctional facilities.

He described prison life as a social experience requiring deliberate attention and innovative interventions, calling the agreement “a blueprint for sustained collaboration between academia and state institutions.”

Apostle Professor Anim and his team expressed appreciation to the Prisons Administration for its commitment to reform, describing the partnership as a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between academic institutions and the Ghana Prisons Service.
