Ghana Immigration Service strengthens International Security Cooperation with Italy

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intensified efforts to strengthen international security cooperation following high-level engagements in Italy focused on counter-terrorism, border security, and transnational crime.

A delegation led by the Comptroller-General of the GIS, Samuel Basintale Amadu, has paid a working visit to the Director of the Central Directorate of Prevention of the Italian Polizia di Stato and representatives of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

The discussions centred on the growing terrorist threat across the Sahel and coastal West Africa, particularly the activities of violent extremist groups, transnational organised crime, irregular migration, and arms smuggling.

During the meeting, concerns were raised over the vulnerability of Ghana’s northern borders due to increasing instability in neighbouring Sahelian countries.

Mr. Amadu reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Immigration Service to strengthening border surveillance and enhancing intelligence-driven operations to respond effectively to emerging security threats.

He noted that the Service is also prioritising tactical readiness and closer inter-agency collaboration as part of broader efforts to safeguard Ghana’s territorial integrity and national security.

He highlighted the importance of international cooperation and information sharing in addressing cross-border security challenges affecting the West African sub-region.
