The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on newly sworn-in executives of the Ghana Hotels Association to lead a new phase of growth, innovation and global competitiveness in the hospitality sector.
Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony on Friday, in Accra, she noted that international tourist arrivals have exceeded 1.1 million, generating more than 3.8 billion dollars in receipts, with projections approaching 4 billion dollars.
“Hotel occupancy rates have also improved across major cities including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale” she noted
The Minister described the election of the new executives as a vote of confidence and a call to duty.
She urged the leadership to focus on increasing value per guest through better service delivery, distinct visitor experiences and stronger destination branding.
She also encouraged the Association to improve revenue and pricing strategies, standardize service quality, invest in workforce training and adopt digital systems.
“Government support for the sector will continue through initiatives such as the Black Star Experience, alongside efforts to improve access to finance and deepen public private collaboration” she added
The incoming President of the Association, Mr Victor Minta pledged inclusive and results-driven leadership and called for reforms in regulatory frameworks to support broader participation.
He announced plans to establish a credit union for industry players, develop a local hotel booking platform to improve visibility and introduce a leadership summit to encourage dialogue and innovation.
Mr Minta said the private sector remains a major source of jobs and national revenue but requires a more supportive environment.
He also called for transparency in the use of tourism levies and development funds.
