The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jajah, has stated that accurate data will guide planning and investment decisions in Ghana’s film industry.
He acknowledged the allocation of GH¢20 million to support the sector but said the use of the funds must be based on evidence to avoid waste and ensure results.
Mr Jajah made the remarks on Tuesday when the newly elected executives of the Film Producers Association of Ghana paid a courtesy call on the ministry to discuss industry development and collaboration.
He said the absence of reliable data could lead to resources being directed to the wrong areas, noting that key gaps remain in technical skills such as cinematography and production support.
He added that a data-driven approach would help align training and capacity-building efforts with the needs of the industry.
The Deputy Minister called for practical infrastructure solutions, including the use of existing spaces as work hubs for creatives. He urged stronger coordination between the ministry and sector agencies, including the National Commission on Culture, to support steady development.
He noted that current funding may not be enough to meet the demands of the industry and said better data could help attract additional investment.
On his part, Vice President of the Association, Ola Michael, said the visit was to introduce the new executives and present proposals on challenges facing film producers.
He said the association remains ready to work with the ministry and its agencies to address structural issues in the sector.
Officials present at the meeting, including acting Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency, Gideon Aryeequaye, and acting Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku, also pledged their support.
