Foreign Affairs Ministry Announces Ghana House Architectural Design Competition

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the launch of the Ghana House Architectural Design Competition, aimed at crafting a distinctive architectural identity for Ghana’s overseas missions.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, unveiled the initiative during the Government Accountability Series on September 15, 2025.

In a release issued by the ministry on Wednesday in Accra, it stated that the Ghana House Architectural Design Competition is a policy decision that was taken as part of the Ministry’s Strategic Transition from Renting to Infrastructure Development (STRIDE) Initiative.

“Under this landmark policy, the Ministry will progressively reduce its reliance on rented facilities for its Missions abroad by acquiring and developing permanent state-owned properties. These Embassies and High Commissions to be constructed across the world must have a standard design that depicts Ghana’s unique history, identity, heritage and culture”, it added.

According to the release, the Ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Institute of Architects to bring to the Ghanaian people a competition that is credible and transparent which will lead to the selection of the most iconic, green and creative architectural design.

The competition is opened to all Ghanaian Architects and Architectural Firms, in good standing with the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA), a credible and recognised body with years of expertise who will administer the competition.

An independent Panel of Judges of integrity will scrutinise the submissions and the best three (3) winning designs will be made public and the winning designs will be selected to receive First, Second and Third prizes”, it added.

The release announced the commencement of the Ghana House Architectural Design Competition with series of activities starting on Thursday, 6th November 2025 with structured timelines provided to guarantee merit-based process in the interest of the Ghanaian taxpayer.

“Competition Launch on Thursday, November 6, 2025, registration Opens & Closes on Friday, November 7, 2025, deadline for Receiving Requests, Monday, November 10, 2025, response to Participant Queries on Thursday, November 13, 2025, receipt of Entries on Monday, December 1, 2025, judging of Submissions on Thursday, December 4 – Friday, December 5, 2025”, it added.

It said declaration of Winners/Award of Prizes will be on Monday, December 8, 2025, Public Display of Top 3 Winning Entries on Monday, December 15 – Wednesday, December 31, 2025 and presentation of Assessments to Panel of Judges on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The release said all qualified Ghanaians are invited to participate whereas the competition Brief, including full Technical Specifications, Evaluation Criteria and Submission Guidelines, will be published on the official website of the Ghana Institute of Architects immediately following the commencement on 6th November 2025.

The ministry urged members of the public to rely exclusively on the verified digital platforms of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ghana Institute of Architects for authentic updates and to disregard unofficial sources.
