The North East Regional Minister, Mr Ibrahim Tia, has led the Municipal, District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region to sign the 2026 performance contract.
He said the signing of the contract should not only be about reports but also about improved roads, health and sanitation facilities, better schools and enhanced local economic development.
The minister charged the MDCEs and the Coordinating Directors to ensure that the contracts are executed effectively, urging them to ensure that all heads of departments and staff members understand their responsibilities.
Mr Tia told them to view the signing of the performance contract as a renewal of a solemn pledge to provide the people of the region with accountable, efficient, and results-oriented service.
“The performance contracts, as facilitated by the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), are binding commitments, which hold us accountable for the judicious use of public resources and demand measurable results in every District Assembly,” he said.
He noted that the 2026 performance contract focuses on financial discipline, so the MDCEs and the Coordinating Directors are expected to ensure that the District Common Fund and other resources are utilised effectively.
In view of this, he urged them to pay special attention to stalled projects to prevent waste of national resources.
He lamented the situation that none of the MDAs in the region has ever won an award since the introduction of the Performance Contract initiative and encouraged them to put in their best this time around.
The minister entreated the MDCEs and the Coordinating Directors to adhere to the dictates of the Performance Contract Documents as they would to their religious books and commit to delivering a better Ghana.
