Deputy Transport Minister Pays A Working Visit To Metro Mass Transit

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Madam Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has paid a familiarisation visit to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to gain first-hand insight into the company’s operations and to assess its challenges.

During the visit on Thursday in Accra, the Deputy Minister lauded Metro Mass Transit for its significant role in Ghana’s public transport system, describing the company as a “reliable pillar” that has served millions of Ghanaians with affordable and accessible transport services over the years.

“Metro Mass Transit has made invaluable contributions by transporting countless passengers at affordable fares and, on many occasions, offering free rides to students and the elderly. These efforts have enhanced the socio-economic well-being of our citizens,” the Deputy Minister noted.

Highlighting the company’s mandate to provide safe, reliable, and affordable mass transit services, Madam Affo-Toffey emphasised the urgent need for fleet expansion to sustain intra-city, inter-city, and rural-urban operations.

She explained that the visit provided an opportunity to engage with management on existing challenges and to explore sustainable strategies for strengthening the institution.

“Although this may seem challenging, I assure you that the Ministry will provide the necessary support, whether through bus acquisition or other essential resources. I am confident that Metro Mass will regain its reputation as a reliable pillar of our national transport system,” she assured.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening collaboration with MMTL in advancing shared goals to improve public transport services nationwide.

The Managing Director of MMTL, Mr Kale Cezario, appealed for increased support, particularly in funding and logistics, to enhance the company’s nationwide operations.

He underscored the critical role of transport in national development, stressing that Ghana’s ambitious 24-hour economy policy and broader global economic integration agenda cannot succeed without a strong and reliable transport system.

“We are committed to resetting this company in line with the President’s vision of transforming Ghana. With the right support, MMT will once again stand as a pillar of national development,” Mr Cezario affirmed.

She expressed gratitude to management and staff for their dedication and continued support to both the Ministry and the nation.

A brief presentation was later made to Honourable Dr Topey in appreciation of the Ministry’s continued support.
