The Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC) has convened a high-level consultative dialogue involving more than 50 representatives from the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities in the Ashanti Region to promote peaceful coexistence.
This also will strengthen unity between the two ethnic groups and empower youth to champion ongoing peacebuilding initiatives.
Delivering the keynote address last Thursday, the former Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, stressed the urgency of translating early warning signals into concrete peace actions.
“Sustaining the fragile peace would require visible acts of reconciliation beyond verbal assurances. We are one people. Let’s not destroy ourselves. When searching for peace, especially in war-torn areas like Bawku, we must be bipartisan” he said.
Otumfuo Nsumankwahene, Baffour Asabere Kogyawoasu Ababio III underscored the significant role of local advocacy in shaping national conflict resolution efforts adding that,“Restoring calm in the Ashanti Region is critical for building trust.”
He said. “A united front among Mamprusi and Kusasi youth here can send a strong message to leaders in Bawku and help shift attitudes toward lasting peace.”
The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs, Naba Musah Akambonga, appealed for willingness to compromise as a pathway to reconciliation.
“Unless one party agrees to let go and accept being unwise, the conflict at Bawku cannot be resolved completely. Flexibility and compromise are key to building trust and cooperation,” he noted.
Representatives from the Ghana Police Service (Manhyia Division), the Office of the Regional Chief Imam, and staff of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council were also present.
