Government to offer recruitment opportunities to families of El-Wak stampede victims

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced the government’s decision to offer recruitment opportunities to relatives of the victims who lost their lives in the recent stampede at the El-Wak Stadium.

He made this known when he visited the families of the victims last Friday in Accra on behalf of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Genfi expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

According to him, the decision to offer replacement recruitment to relatives is part of broader efforts to provide relief and show the government’s solidarity with grieving families.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to support families in providing the deceased with a befitting burial and also assured them that such tragedies would not recur, noting that the findings of the ongoing investigations would shape future recruitment procedures.

He further stated that all injured applicants would be automatically recruited once they are medically certified fit.

The delegation, which included the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey; the Acting Director-General of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin; and other senior military officers, presented the families with a token contribution towards the burial of the six potential recruits.
