883 Medical House Officers Have Now Been Placed on a Salary-Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that 883 medical house officers have now been placed on salary, and clearance has been secured for 203 doctors employed late last year.

He added that 321 pharmacists who completed their housemanship in early 2024 have also now received their allowances.

He disclosed this on Monday in a press conference in Accra.

The minister announced that there has been significant progress in addressing the backlog of unpaid salaries and recruitment challenges it inherited upon assuming office. Noting that the ministry has worked diligently with the Ministry of Finance to resolve long-standing issues affecting thousands of health workers across the country.

According to the minister, 15,755 rotation nurses and midwives, as well as 2,154 allied health interns who have not been paid since completing their national service, will begin receiving their allowances from next month.

“Regarding the issue of 13,500 nurses and midwives whose financial clearance expired before their postings, the Ministry confirmed that over 7,000 have already been paid, and clearance has been obtained for the remaining 6,500, which will be processed immediately,” he emphasised.

Mr Akandoh noted that the government is committed to ensuring that all affected health workers are paid and that such administrative lapses do not recur. He assured health professionals of the Ministry’s continued efforts to strengthen systems and protect the welfare of Ghana’s health workforce.
