The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mrs Emelia Arthur, and the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ángel Lossada, have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to improving safety, fisheries management, maritime security, and the sustainable development of marine resources.
This was when the Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the minister on Wednesday in Accra to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Spain.
Mrs Arthur expressed appreciation to the Government of Spain for its longstanding cooperation and technical support to Ghana’s fisheries sector.
She emphasised the significance of partnerships that foster effective monitoring and sustainable utilisation of marine resources.
The Minister also expressed interest in exploring future collaborations, including the provision of patrol boats and other forms of technical assistance to enhance maritime security and fisheries governance.
Ambassador Lossada reaffirmed Spain’s dedication to supporting Ghana in advancing sustainable fisheries management and fighting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities.
He further outlined potential areas of collaboration that could improve monitoring, surveillance, and enforcement in Ghana’s fisheries sector.
