The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989) came alive on the airwaves as an engaging sensitization programme was held at Abibirem FM in Kade to educate the public on their right to access information. Led by the Information Officer, the interactive radio discussion formed part of ongoing community engagement efforts aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance through the RTI Law.
During the broadcast, the Information Officer explained the significance of the RTI Act and its role in empowering citizens to request and obtain information from public institutions. Listeners were taken through the key provisions of the law, including the procedures for applying for information, timelines for responses, and the responsibility of public institutions to provide access except in cases of exempt information. The discussion emphasized that access to information remains a fundamental tool for strengthening democracy and open governance.
