ASSIN NORTH CHRAJ OFFICE SENSITIZED ON RTI ACT TO PROMOTE OPEN GOVERNANCE

The Assin North District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has been sensitized on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989) as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and open governance in public institutions. The sensitization programme, held on Tuesday, 3rd March, 2026, was led by the Assin North RTI Officer to deepen awareness and understanding of the law among staff of the institution.

During the highly interactive and informative session, the RTI Officer educated participants on the procedures involved in applying for information under the RTI Act. Staff members were taken through the processes for submitting requests, the timelines within which applications are processed, and the responsibilities of public institutions in responding to applicants. The Officer also explained the concept of exempt information and outlined circumstances under which certain information may not qualify for disclosure under the law.

The sensitization further highlighted the mechanisms available to applicants when requests for information are denied. Participants were educated on how to seek redress, including the appropriate channels for appeal and review in line with the provisions of the RTI Act. The discussions provided clarity on the practical implementation of the law and reinforced the importance of ensuring that citizens are well informed about their rights to access public information.

Addressing the gathering, the RTI Officer emphasized that the RTI Act remains a critical tool in promoting transparency, accountability, and public confidence in state institutions. The Officer noted that effective implementation of the law strengthens open governance by encouraging institutions to operate in a more transparent manner while empowering citizens to actively participate in national development processes. Participants expressed appreciation for the engagement and described the programme as insightful and beneficial to their work.
