The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Church and the Ghana Prisons Service, particularly in supporting inmates as they transition back into society after serving their sentences.
She made this statement during a strategic meeting on Tuesday, in Accra, with the Prison Service Council, led by Chairman Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi and the leadership of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) to strengthen partnerships in inmate rehabilitation and reintegration.
Highlighting the Service’s comprehensive reform agenda, the Director-General presented the “Think Prisons 360” Initiative, which aims to improve officer welfare, enhance institutional efficiency, and promote overall prison development.
Key components of the initiative include welfare for officers and inmates, agricultural mechanisation, industrialisation, business and wealth creation, and other special interventions.
Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie also discussed the Prisons Improvement and Sustainability Pesewa Fund (PISPES), appealing to Ghanaians to support the initiative.
She described it as a sustainable approach to improving prison infrastructure and advancing inmate rehabilitation programs.
The President of the GPCC, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, commended the Ghana Prisons Service for its commitment to inmate reformation and rehabilitation and assured the Service of the Council’s readiness to support its reform efforts.
