Ayawaso North MCE Urges Persons with Disabilities to Utilise Government Support

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly, Mr. Haruna Awal Mohammed, has called on persons with disabilities in the municipality to make effective use of items distributed under the government’s disability fund.

Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday to hand over the items, Mr. Mohammed emphasised that the support was carefully selected to empower beneficiaries economically and provide long-term sustainability.

“The items you are receiving today are deliberately chosen to empower you economically, and will sustain you for a long time,” he said.

Out of 62 applicants, 36 beneficiaries received various items including 300-litre chest freezers with start-up cash, industrial sewing machines, overlock machines, HP laptops, tables with umbrellas, glass door fridges, hearing aids, and financial support for medical bills, school fees, and small businesses.

On her part, the Senior Social Development Officer, Madam Rosemond Aboagyewaa Opoku, educated participants on the growing issue of child labour in the municipality.

She cited an ongoing case under investigation and used UNICEF’s child protection facilitation flashcards to raise awareness.

Madam Opoku urged community members to be vigilant and report cases of child exploitation, stressing that protecting children remains a shared responsibility.

Also present at the ceremony were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Jamani Dramani, Head of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Vera Aku Nyarko and Deputy Director, Madam Hannah Asiedu-Mantey.
