The Director of Nuclear Power calls on the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs

A delegation from Nuclear Power Ghana, led by the Executive Chief Director, Dr Stephen Yamoah, has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs to brief him on progress made toward the use of nuclear power to boost energy production.

During the meeting on Wednesday, in Accra, Dr Yamoah updated the Deputy Minister on key developments, including site assessments, community engagement, vendor technology selection, capacity building, infrastructure development, and regulatory compliance measures aimed at ensuring safety.

He highlighted plans for grid integration and regional power export through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), as well as efforts to position Ghana as a regional leader in nuclear energy.

The Deputy Minister, Mr James Gyakye Quayson (MP), commended Nuclear Power Ghana for its strategic approach to programme implementation and indicated that the Ministry supports initiatives that promote the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology.

He stressed the need to adhere to international safety standards and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to advance the nuclear energy objectives of the country.

Mr Gyakye Quayson called for mutual commitment to deepen cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nuclear Power Ghana to enhance Ghana’s capacity in nuclear energy development.
