Ghana to Host Regional Security and Cooperation Conference

The Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is set to host a High-Level Consultative Conference on Regional Cooperation and Security in Accra from January 29 to 30, 2026.

In a release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday in Accra, it stated that the Consultative Conference, which would commence with meetings of senior officials and Ministers, will culminate in a Summit of participating Heads of State and Government from the region.

“The Consultative Conference would discuss security and other related challenges affecting the region, including terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organised crime and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea,” it added.

It said the conference will provide a platform for leaders to have consultations on the security and humanitarian situation in the region; review existing initiatives on peace, security and governance; and discuss practical and sustainable frameworks for enhanced regional cooperation.

“The Consultative Conference also aims at renewing coordinated regional approaches and strengthening collaboration through sustainable platforms for a peaceful, stable and prosperous region,”  it noted.

According to the release, the Government of Ghana envisions the Consultative Conference as an important measure to renew regional solidarity, foster collective responsibility and build a resilient and secure region, through practical interventions aimed at enhancing stability, protecting citizens and promoting sustainable development within the region.
