The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, has assured chiefs and residents in the Ahafo and Western North Regions that the government remains firmly committed to completing all projects under the “Big Push” agenda on schedule.
The Minister gave the assurance during a one-day working visit to the Ahafo and Western North Regions, where he inspected ongoing road projects to assess progress and ensure adherence to technical standards and quality requirements.
He urged contractors working on the various road projects to accelerate their pace of work, warning that contracts of non-performing firms would be terminated without hesitation to avoid unnecessary delays.
Mr Agbodza acknowledged that the poor road conditions have placed a burden on people and economic activities in the two regions, stressing that the timely delivery of these projects was necessary to cushion the people.
He noted that completing the roads was a non-negotiable priority, aimed at easing residents’ daily challenges and improving access for businesses.
The projects inspected include the upgrading of the Bediako Junction to Camp 15 to Sefwi Adabokrom road, covering 55 kilometres under Lot One and an additional 9.5 kilometres under Lot Two.
Other projects include upgrading the Adwofua to Oseikojokrom road from kilometre 16 to 41, and the Enchi to Kudjouru to Pekyi road, which is being implemented in two phases, from kilometre zero to 30 and from kilometre 30 to 62. Construction of the Dadieso-Akontombra road is also underway.
The Minister urged contractors at the various sites to undertake key activities, including demolition and clearing of project areas, construction of drainage systems such as U-drains and culverts, earthworks, and pavement works.
