President Mahama Suspends All Activities, Declares Three Days of National Mourning After Helicopter Crash

President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week following Wednesday’s helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers.

Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a press statement announced that there will be three days of national mourning starting Thursday, August 7, 2025, as the nation grieves the loss of senior government officials and military personnel.

The President’s decision to clear his schedule reflects the gravity of the tragedy that struck the Government when a military helicopter crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday morning.

Among the dead are Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, along with Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

Also killed were Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate, and three military officers: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

The government has directed through the Chief of Staff that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice.
