Residents and businesses in parts of Tema should expect a power interruption on Wednesday morning as the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) undertakes emergency maintenance work at the Smelter II Substation.
GRIDCo said in a press statement issued on Tuesday that the maintenance work will take place on 27th May 2026, with electricity supply expected to be cut from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The company said its engineers and technical teams will work to complete the exercise within the shortest possible time and restore supply promptly.
The company said the work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the reliability of power supply and improve the resilience of the transmission network.
GRIDCo expressed regret over the inconvenience the interruption may cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of affected customers.
The Smelter II Substation forms part of the National Interconnected Transmission System through which GRIDCo supplies electricity to bulk customers and distribution utilities across Ghana.
The company currently transmits power from eleven wholesale suppliers, including the Volta River Authority, to thirty-three bulk customers and distribution utilities nationwide.
