The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has donated relief items to peasant farmers affected by the 2024 drought in parts of the Volta Region, under the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Insurance Scheme.
Beneficiaries from Ho, Kpando, Akatsi North and South, Ketu North and South, and North Tongu Districts received donations, including bags of rice and maize, boxes of cooking oil, and the drilling of a mechanised borehole to improve access to clean water.
At a brief ceremony on Monday, the Director of the Climate Change Department, Ms Charlotte Norman, urged farmers to adapt to the changing weather patterns by adjusting planting periods to secure better harvests.
She also assured them of the government’s commitment to making agriculture attractive to the youth.
The Deputy Director of Climate Change, Mr Ebenezer Akoto, appreciated Ms Norman for her collaboration with the German Government, which has strengthened Ghana’s capacity to respond swiftly to climate shocks.
He noted that beneficiaries were carefully selected through satellite monitoring and field validation to ensure the most vulnerable farmers received NADMO’s support.
Through this donation, NADMO reaffirms its commitment to supporting communities in times of crisis and enhancing resilience against climate-related challenges.
