Interior Minister Presents Vehicles to NACOC to help Fight Against Organised Crime

The Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mubarak, has presented 10 Nissan Navara pickup vehicles to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to strengthen the commission’s operational capacity in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and organised crime.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Monday in Accra, the Minister said the donation underscored the government’s commitment to equipping Ghana’s security institutions with the logistics needed to discharge their mandates effectively.

“These ten Nissan pickup vehicles being commissioned today are a strategic investment intended to enhance the operational efficiency, rapid response capability, and nationwide reach of the Commission,” Mr Muntaka said.

He reiterated that the fight against illicit drugs and transnational organised crime remains a critical national and global concern, stressing that the government, in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, is determined to address the menace in the national interest.

“The activities of narcotics trafficking, drug abuse, and related criminal networks pose serious threats to public health, national security, and socio-economic development. Ghana, as a responsible member of the international community, cannot and will not relent in confronting these threats,” the Minister stated.

Mr Muntaka noted that the additional vehicles would help improve response times, enhance operational capacity, and increase arrests nationwide. He urged NACOC management and personnel to ensure the vehicles are used judiciously and properly maintained to achieve their intended purpose.

The Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, expressed gratitude to the Minister and the Government for what he described as timely logistical support.

He said the provision of the vehicles demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving mobility and strengthening surveillance operations across the country, adding that the pickups would significantly enhance NACOC’s effectiveness.

Brigadier General Obuba Mantey assured the Minister that the vehicles would be responsibly deployed and well-maintained, strictly in furtherance of NACOC’s mandate to combat illicit drug trafficking, reduce drug abuse, and safeguard the health, safety, and security of the Ghanaian people.
