Interior Minister Meets Greater Accra Police and House of Chiefs to address Chieftency and Homowo- related issues

The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has convened a meeting with the Greater Accra Regional and District Police Commanders and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to address ongoing chieftaincy disputes and issues related to the Homowo festival that have threatened peace in the region.

Speaking at the meeting on Wednesday in Accra, the minister charged the Regional and District Police Commanders to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to crime, emphasizing that “crime must be treated as crime.” 

He urged the police to be firm and resolute in preventing the recurrence of chieftaincy disputes and Homowo-related disturbances, which have disrupted peace in parts of the region. 

The Minister stressed the need for swift prosecution of offenders to deter future incidents, stating, “The right things must be done, and all related matters must face prosecution to uphold justice.”

He underscored the importance of collaboration, calling on the Ghana Police Service to continue working closely with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to resolve disputes and maintain stability. 

He highlighted the critical role of traditional leaders in fostering peace and urged both parties to sustain their partnership to address the root causes of the issues.

The Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Enoch Addo, expressed gratitude to the Minister for his proactive engagement and commitment to resolving the region’s issues.

He assured the Minister that the House of Chiefs would work hand in hand with the Ghana Police Service to promote peace and support efforts to address chieftaincy and Homowo-related issues.
